Funeral Rites of Asante Hemaa Begin Today at Manhyia Palace

The funeral ceremonies for the Asante Hemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III commence today 15th September at the historic Manhyia Palace, marking the beginning of a series of traditional and state-led events to honor the late queen mother. The Asante Hemaa, a revered figure in Ashanti culture, passed away recently, leaving a legacy of leadership, philanthropy, and dedication to the Ashanti Kingdom.

The opening of the funeral rites is expected to draw dignitaries, traditional leaders, politicians, and thousands of mourners from across Ghana and abroad. The Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asantehene, will serve as the central venue for the rituals, which will include prayers, libations, and cultural performances reflecting centuries-old Ashanti traditions.

According to palace officials, the funeral will span for four days, from 15th September to 18th September culminating in the final interment. The ceremonies are designed to honor the Asante Hemaa’s life and contributions while reinforcing the cultural heritage of the Ashanti people.

Local authorities have confirmed that security and traffic arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the events, as large crowds are anticipated.

Political leaders, including representatives from the government and other dignitaries , are expected to pay their respects, highlighting the Asante Hemaa’s influence not only within the Ashanti Kingdom but also on national affairs.

“This is a moment for all Ghanaians, particularly the Ashanti people, to celebrate the life of a remarkable leader who devoted herself to the service of her people,” a palace spokesperson said.

The funeral rites of the Asante Hemaa are widely regarded as a major cultural event, attracting attention from both media and scholars interested in Ghana’s traditional governance and ceremonial practices.
