US officials have confirmed that human remains discovered in a vehicle linked to musician D4vd belong to 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, who had been reported missing.
The body was located on September 8 inside the trunk of a Tesla that had been impounded and taken to a Hollywood tow yard in Los Angeles. Police had gone to the site after receiving complaints about a strong odor.
Investigators have not yet determined when Rivas died or what caused her death.
According to a missing-person notice cited by CBS, Rivas—who lived in Lake Elsinore, California—was 13 when she was last seen on April 5, 2024.
Police believe the Tesla had been sitting at the Hollywood tow yard for several days before the grim discovery was made. The vehicle, which carried Texas plates, had been removed from the Hollywood Hills about five days after being left abandoned.
Records show the car belongs to 20-year-old David Anthony Burke, better known to fans as the singer D4vd.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office, the body recovered from the trunk was that of a female about 5 feet 2 inches (157 cm) tall, with wavy black hair. She had been wearing a tube top and black leggings, and a tattoo on her right index finger read “Shhh.” Officials noted the remains were incomplete and suggested she had been dead for quite some time, NBC News reported.
D4vd, who has built a massive online following and rose to fame with tracks like Here With Me and Romantic Homicide, had just released his debut album in April. He was touring when the body was discovered, and his Seattle concert scheduled for Wednesday was cancelled. Authorities said the musician is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
