A New Zealand lady has been detained after a two-year-old child was discovered in her suitcase.

A woman in New Zealand has been arrested after a two-year-old girl was discovered in her luggage while travelling by bus. Police said authorities were called to a bus stop in Kaiwaka, a tiny town in the country’s north, on Sunday after a passenger requested entry to the luggage compartment. “The driver became concerned when he saw the bag move. “When the driver opened the suitcase, they found the two-year-old girl,” New Zealand Police stated in a statement. The 27-year-old lady has been detained and charged with child abuse or neglect. “The little girl was reported to be very hot, but otherwise appeared physically unharmed,” the cops stated.

She has been brought to the hospital for a medical examination, they added. The woman’s relationship with the child has not been disclosed. The woman is scheduled to appear in North Shore District Court on Monday. “We would like to acknowledge and commend the bus driver, who noticed something wasn’t right and took immediate action, preventing what could have been a far worse outcome,” according to the police.
