London-based experimental folk collective Bishopskin return with “Doggerland,” a cinematic new single that intertwines haunting melodies with orchestral textures. The track tells the story of a mythical inhabitant of Doggerland—the land that once connected Britain to continental Europe—watching as their ancestral home drowns beneath the North Sea. With its slow-burning structure, the song captures themes of loss, memory, and displacement, evoking a timeless sense of mourning while expanding the group’s reputation for bold, immersive storytelling.
Formed during lockdown by frontman Tiger Nicholson and guitarist James Donovan, Bishopskin began as an unlikely experiment. The two first crossed paths while working with London art-rockers HMLTD—Nicholson as stage designer and Donovan as guitarist—and when lockdown brought them together, they started crafting songs at home. What began as a one-off project quickly drew unexpected enthusiasm, leading to their debut EP and the eventual formation of a full band.

Since then, Bishopskin have carved a name for themselves across London’s grassroots circuit, known for theatrical and immersive live performances that blur the line between concert and ritual. Their momentum culminated in the release of their 2023 debut album Babble via indie label Isolar Records, funded with the help of a devoted fan. Praised for its daring fusion of folk, punk, hymnody, and avant-garde elements, the record earned acclaim from outlets including Clash Magazine, So Young, DIY, Metal Mag, and BBC6 Music, establishing them as one of the city’s most distinctive new acts.
Bishopskin’s live reputation continues to soar, with five consecutive London shows sold out—including a triumphant night at the Moth Club—and a headline set at The Great Escape earlier this year. Their upcoming performance at the legendary 100 Club on October 16 is already selling fast. With work underway on their second album, “Doggerland” signals a bold new chapter, cementing Bishopskin’s place at the forefront of experimental folk.
