Former President Joe Biden recently underwent a surgical procedure to remove skin cancer lesions from his forehead, his spokesperson confirmed. The announcement follows public concern sparked by a video showing Biden with a visible gash across his forehead.
According to spokesperson Kelly Scully, Biden received Mohs surgery, a highly precise procedure in which thin layers of skin are removed and examined one by one until no cancerous cells remain . The confirmation came in the wake of footage showing him leaving a church in Delaware during Labor Day weekend, where the scar was notably visible .
This is not Biden’s first encounter with skin cancer. In February 2023, while still serving as president, he underwent removal of a basal cell carcinoma from his chest a common, typically low-risk form of skin cancer . That same year, First Lady Jill Biden also had cancerous lesions removed via Mohs surgery .
Earlier this year, in May, Biden disclosed that he was diagnosed with an aggressive, metastatic form of prostate cancer (stage 4, Gleason score 9), which had spread to his bones but remains responsive to hormone therapy . Throughout these health battles, Biden has remained forthright, stating, “Cancer touches us all … we are strongest in the broken places”, as reflected in his public statements .
At 82 years old, Biden continues to face health challenges with transparency and resilience. His medical team has assured the public that the Mohs procedure was successful and that follow-up care, including continued dermatologic monitoring, is underway.
Former President Joe Biden has undergone Mohs surgery to excise skin cancer lesions from his forehead. The procedure was confirmed following public sightings of a scar in Delaware. Biden has a history of basal cell carcinoma removal and continues to manage ongoing cancer-related health issues with his medical team. His openness about his condition reflects his broader commitment to advocacy around cancer and health awareness.
