Pop Icon Agnes Returns With Bold New Single “EGO”

Swedish pop sensation Agnes is back with her powerful new single EGO, the third release from her highly anticipated upcoming album. Following the success of her acclaimed project Magic Still Exists and the singles BALENCIAGA COVERED EYES and MILK, EGO arrives as a disco-synth-driven track with sharp lyrical depth. Written by Agnes alongside Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir (who have collaborated with Madonna, Avicii, and Katy Perry), as well as Hannah Wilson, Kerstin Ljungström, and Frans Bryngel, the single reflects the artist’s ongoing exploration of identity and the human condition.

For Agnes, EGO marks a turning point. “It was the first song I wrote for my new album,” she explains. “With this record, I wanted to highlight the contradictions within us — strength and fragility, recklessness and control. Life is not about being good or bad; it’s about embracing complexity.” The lyrics, influenced by philosopher Eckhart Tolle’s reflections on the ego, encourage letting go of control and allowing transformation to take place both in relationships and within oneself.

The single is accompanied by a striking music video directed by Swim Club, which visually embodies these contrasts. With a mix of speed and stillness, glossy and matte textures, and chaotic yet precise choreography, the video mirrors the song’s message of duality. Agnes says she intentionally allowed the lyrics to lead the creative process this time, resulting in raw, direct songs that push her vocal and artistic boundaries further than before.

With nearly half a billion streams, a career spanning two decades, and a legacy that includes the global hit Release Me, Agnes continues to reinvent herself as one of Sweden’s most compelling pop exports. EGO reaffirms her place at the forefront of modern pop — daring, authentic, and endlessly evolving.
