Shots Fired at U.S. Consulate in Toronto Sparks Police Investigation

Canadian authorities are investigating a shooting incident after gunfire was reported at the United States Consulate in Toronto early on Tuesday morning. Police said officers responded to reports of shots fired at the diplomatic building in downtown Toronto at around 5:30 a.m., where investigators later found evidence that a firearm had been discharged at the site. No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.

According to police, the incident occurred near University Avenue and Queen Street West in the city’s downtown core. Crime scene investigators examined the exterior of the consulate and photographed damage believed to be caused by gunfire. Authorities confirmed that bullet marks were found on the building, but the structure’s reinforced design prevented the shots from penetrating inside the facility, where people were present at the time.

Investigators believe two individuals may have been involved in the attack. Reports indicate that the suspects exited a white Honda CR-V vehicle, fired multiple shots toward the consulate, and then fled the scene before police arrived. Shell casings were recovered nearby, but no arrests had been made and no suspect descriptions were immediately released.

The incident is being treated as a potential national security matter, with the Toronto Police Service working alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to determine the motive behind the attack. Authorities have also increased security around American diplomatic facilities and other sensitive locations in the city while the investigation continues.

Canadian officials strongly condemned the shooting. Ontario Premier Doug Ford described it as “an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation,” emphasizing that Canada has zero tolerance for attacks against diplomatic institutions or foreign officials. Canada’s Public Safety Minister also denounced the incident and said the government is cooperating closely with U.S. authorities.

The shooting comes amid heightened security concerns in Toronto after recent incidents involving gunfire at synagogues in the region. Officials have warned that international tensions and protests linked to global conflicts have increased demonstrations outside the U.S. consulate, which is a frequent gathering site for both supporters and critics of U.S. foreign policy.
