Soulja Boy was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

Soulja Boy, a US rapper, was arrested in Los Angeles early Sunday morning on suspicion of firearms charges, according to reports. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to CBS News that the star, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested about 2:35 a.m. local time in the city’s Melrose neighbourhood. Officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered that Way, a passenger in the vehicle, was reportedly carrying a handgun. The rapper and producer, best known for his 2007 hit Crank That (Soulja Boy), was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm while a felon.

The 35-year-old built a following off the back of the track which was attached to a popular dance trend at the time.

Separately, in April of this year, Soulja Boy was forced to pay $4.25 million to a woman who accused him of sexual violence and abuse. The unnamed lady sued the star, claiming he raped, battered, and sometimes imprisoned her after hiring her as his assistant. Way denied abusing her and claimed their connection was consensual, but a civil jury found him liable for sexual battery, assault, and gender violence.
