A fast-moving tornado ripped through northwest Harris County Monday afternoon, carving a “significant” path of damage across several neighborhoods and leaving more than 100 homes damaged, officials said. No serious injuries or deaths were reported.
Residents in neighborhoods from Memorial Northwest to parts of Cy-Fair, Klein, Spring and areas near Willowbrook and Jersey Village reported roofs torn off, shattered windows and downed trees and power lines. Drone and ground photos posted by local officials show entire roof sections missing and debris-strewn streets.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touchdown in northwest Harris County and had issued watches and warnings ahead of the storm. Emergency crews from local fire departments and the Harris County constable’s office responded quickly to clear roads and assess structural damage. The Houston Fire Department deployed a saw team to remove fallen trees that were blocking streets.
The tornado caused notable damage to the Harris County ESD 11 EMS campus on Stuebner Airline Road, where an older maintenance building lost its roof and rear wall; two employees inside the building were uninjured after sheltering during the strike. A gas leak at the site was quickly contained and essential ambulance services were rerouted while officials checked for further hazards.
Local officials said power outages were reported in the wake of the storm as crews began restoring lines and removing debris. Preliminary assessments are underway; authorities urged residents to avoid downed power lines, report gas odors immediately, and follow guidance from county emergency management as damage surveys continue.
“Crews are working to clear roads and make sure everyone is safe,” a Harris County official said in social posts shared by the constable’s office. Many neighbors described the impact as sudden — the storm struck in a matter of seconds, leaving families shaken but grateful there were no reported serious injuries.
National Weather Service teams and local storm survey crews will continue assessments to determine the tornado’s path, duration and strength. County emergency management and utility companies are coordinating damage assessments and recovery work; residents in affected neighborhoods are being advised to document damage for insurance purposes and to heed official safety notices.
