A woman in her 30s was assaulted during the early hours of Sunday morning, prompting Thames Valley Police to appeal for witnesses. Authorities are particularly keen to speak with a woman who intervened during the attack to assist the victim.
The incident took place in the churchyard of St Mary’s and nearby areas in Banbury town centre, according to the police. Detective Sergeant Mark Personius stated that while they do not have a description of the “good Samaritan,” her account could provide crucial information to help investigators reconstruct the events.
Describing the attack as “horrific,” DS Personius confirmed that a full-scale investigation is underway to identify those responsible. He also urged anyone who was in the town centre between midnight and 2:30 a.m.—a typically busy time to come forward if they saw or heard anything relevant.
Police have established a cordon around the churchyard to allow forensic teams to examine the scene. Officers are also conducting door-to-door inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
