Ireland-based pianist and composer Max Greenwood has released his latest album, Modern Standards, a mesmerizing collection of solo Steinway concert grand piano interpretations of modern classics. The album highlights Greenwood’s signature spacious and meditative style, uncovering the melodic and harmonic beauty that has made these songs timeless. Following the success of his singles “The Final Countdown,” praised by The Goo magazine as “a strikingly elegant, decelerated transformation of the 1980s glam-metal anthem,” and “Fragile,” described by Ireland’s 8Radio as “stunningly beautiful,” Greenwood’s latest offering includes an evocative rendition of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church,” both delicate and rousing.
Originally from Nottingham and now a long-time resident of Ireland, Greenwood brings a wealth of experience and sensitivity to his performances. Known for his soulful voice and delicate touch, his influences span Folk, Pop, Gospel, Blues, and Jazz. With two critically acclaimed albums of original songs already to his name, Greenwood’s compositions have featured in film and television soundtracks, and he has co-written with artists such as Tom Baxter and Grammy-nominated, MOBO Award-winner Jamie Cullum.
Greenwood’s musical journey has seen him grace some of Europe’s most prestigious stages, including The National Concert Hall and major European festivals. He has also appeared on television shows such as Other Voices and Later… with Jools Holland. Over the years, he has collaborated with a wide array of celebrated artists including Mundy, Jerry Fish, Iarla Ó’Lionáird, Tom Baxter, and The London Community Gospel Choir, cementing his reputation as one of the most versatile and expressive musicians on the Irish scene.
Beyond performance, Greenwood contributes to Ireland’s musical landscape as an educator and community leader. Teaching at both secondary and third levels, he has directed large-scale songwriting and performance projects, such as the Dublin City Arts-funded “Sing a Song of Docklands”—a testament to his commitment to nurturing creativity and connecting people through music.
